Programs Supporting First Generation College Students

TRIO Student Support Services Program

The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program is for first-generation college students, those who meet certain income criteria and students with documented disabilities. The program propels students at Michigan State University towards academic success and graduation. Spartan First-Generation Leadership and Innovation Program (Spartan FLI)

This new first-generation college program aims to inspire first-generation college students to persist and graduate by eliminating barriers, providing high-impact learning experiences, and ongoing leadership development. The program will increase first-generation college student persistence and retention rates by removing opportunity gaps, maintaining parent resources, and providing a multilevel support system that consists of peer mentors, faculty, and staff. The Honors College
